  Phillis Wheatley Elementary School

Phillis Wheatley Elementary is an urban school located at 2415 Agnes Avenue, with 35 certified staff, 10 non certified staff, serves 305 students in kindergarten through fifth grade, including early childhood, a full inclusion and serves multi-handicapped students. The school serves children from all areas of the city as part of the districts'  "School of Choice" program.  The two-floor building was constructed in 1955 and later designated as a science and math magnet school in 1987 in response to a federal school desegregation order. As part of the implementation of the magnet theme, the school had three content teachers in the field of science, animal studies, computer and math.  An additional wing was added to the building in 1989 to house new laboratory facilities and the school's expansive library.
