Wheatley's Volunteers

Through the collaboration of our partnerships and contributors they worked together to help students to establish and achieve goals thorough ongoing planning. Community agencies and organization representing social service and staff assisted in the school, reality testing modifying the student plans. They contributed the comprehensive nature of planning and have promised to continue their input and participation.

We recognize the importance of being a collaborator to themselves and to the students they assist. This mean more than being cooperative: its mean it is a partnership, and making a total commitment.

  Deloitte Touche

The volunteers provided a person to person support in education, technology integration and guidance. The volunteers increased an awareness of and help implement technologies that help the students in a positive manner. There plan was  to seek out promising and proven technologies and provided a forum where the students worked together for understanding and implementing these technologies.

  Lincoln College Preparatory Academy Students

A collaboration project with the Lincoln College Preparatory Academy students worked with the Wheatley's 4th graders. The LC students engaged in peer conferencing with our students to formulate a cooperative biographical research paper focusing on President Harry S. Truman. Following the completion of the project, students visited relevant sites associated with the historical figure including the 1827 Jackson County Log Courthouse, Independence Courthouse, Truman's Home, Harry S. Truman Library and touring the route of the Santa Fe Trail.

In May 2003, the students presented a public exhibition of their project at the Phillis Wheatley Elementary Library and to the Wheatley's 3rd and 5th classes. The projects were individual student's Web Page, "My Education Technology Portfolio" and their final research paper on President Harry S. Truman.
